The Path of “Self-indulgence and Self-gratification?” Or the Path of “Active Moral Decision Making?”2

A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both. –Dwight D. Eisenhower
The Path of “Self-indulgence and Self-gratification?” Or the Path of “Active Moral Decision Making?”
One Path Leads to Immorality, Mind and Personality Distortion—Insanity and the Death of the Soul…
The Other Leads to Increased Self-control and Self-mastery…Full Soul Consciousness…Spirit-unity—Love and…Immortality…
“The unhappy person resents it when you try to cheer him up, because that means he has to stop dwelling on himself and start paying attention to the universe.
Unhappiness is the ultimate form of self-indulgence. When you’re unhappy, you get to pay a lot of attention to yourself. You get to take yourself oh so very seriously.” –Tom Robbins
What do you think of when you think of the words…self-indulgence and self-gratification? Or have you ever stopped long enough in your own self-indulgent and self-gratifying existence to consider your own self-indulgence and self-gratification? Are you even aware of it—in the least, way, shape and form? Or do you just daily live out your life, wholly unconscious of your ego-centrism?
Intellectual over-indulgence is the most gratuitous and disgraceful form which excess can take, nor is there any the consequences of which are more disastrous. –Samuel Butler
Along the path I have followed in life, I have met others, who were to one extent or another…so focused on self they could hardly be called…conscious… Their attitudes were very black…very selfish…and reduced down to the most common meaning…they were saying to me…
“I am going to get mine, even if it means screwing you over…even if it means killing you to get what I want.”
Life and the internet is full to overflowing with almost countless stories, pictures and videos of the self-indulgent.
Almost the whole of the American people, American Society, the Government, its institutions and corporations appear wholly self-indulgent to me. It does not end with the American people. Human beings, across the planet are largely self-indulgent and self-seeking—seeking self-gratification to one degree or another and in one form or another.
Punctuate human self-indulgence with it focus on ego-centrism—the need to be right and to get instant gratification, no matter what the cost to self—the mind, personality and soul, and to others in the world around him or her, even to the whole of humanity itself; herein the person of wisdom sees the distortions—the readily apparent insanity of mind and personality, evidenced in the 7 billion individual mortal viewpoints—beliefs, ideologies, philosophies, religious systems and scientific theories all engaged in a tug-of-war with each the other to be right—have the right—more rights—to have more rights and just have, possess and own more of something than every other individual in the world around them—even if that something more is just being absolutely right and wanting everyone else to believe uniformly, as they do.
The perfecting of one’s self is the fundamental base of all progress and all moral development. –Confucius
And if you could get each individual, who has embraced this self-seeking philosophy, to be totally and absolutely honest with himself or herself…the person would own up to the fact that he or she has embraced a…godless philosophy…of living out the remainder of the material human life experience believing in his or her own right to be more right…even absolutely right…than all others living in the world.
After all…it’s a dog eat dog world… Isn’t it? Get yours…while the getting is good? Take everything from everyone you can…because tomorrow you may not be here? Do as thou wilt?
It is this underlying “godless philosophy,” regardless of how it tries to disguise itself—wrap itself up in mysticism, religiosity, spirituality, philosophy and scientism and consumerism, which has virtually infected the whole of human civilization for the last 250,000 years, since the Lucifer Rebellion threw the primitive human tribes into utter confusion, darkness and the Earth itself had to be spiritually quarantined to isolate the evil doers and their evil acts from infecting other worlds beyond the planet.
This Luciferian philosophy of “Do as thou wilt” has now just about reached its apex of infection and manifestation. All of the godlessness of the past ages and this present materialistic age is a direct result of the actions of Lucifer, Caligastia and Satan. Lucifer was a brilliant angel, a System Sovereign Ruler over many inhabited worlds. Caligastia was our Planetary Sovereign. Satan (likely named after the System of worlds, both material and spiritual, to which our planet, Urantia, belongs—Satania), was Caligastia’s Lieutenant in charge of executing the daily affairs and long term plans for the biological uplifting of the human races.
“Self-indulgence is the enemy of gratitude, and self-discipline usually its friend and generator. That is why gluttony is a deadly sin. The early desert fathers believed that a person’s appetites are linked: full stomachs and jaded palates take the edge from our hunger and thirst for righteousness. They spoil the appetite for God. And they may therefore crowd out gratitude.” –Cornelius Plantinga, Jr.
Here is a further description of this apex of godlessness of this present materialistic age…
(2081.3) 195:8.3 At the time of this revelation, the prevailing intellectual and philosophical climate of both European and American life is decidedly secular — humanistic. For three hundred years Western thinking has been progressively secularized. Religion has become more and more a nominal influence, largely a ritualistic exercise. The majority of professed Christians of Western civilization are unwittingly actual secularists.
(2081.4) 195:8.4 It required a great power, a mighty influence, to free the thinking and living of the Western peoples from the withering grasp of a totalitarian ecclesiastical domination. Secularism did break the bonds of church control, and now in turn it threatens to establish a new and godless type of mastery over the hearts and minds of modern man. The tyrannical and dictatorial political state is the direct offspring of scientific materialism and philosophic secularism. Secularism no sooner frees man from the domination of the institutionalized church than it sells him into slavish bondage to the totalitarian state. Secularism frees man from ecclesiastical slavery only to betray him into the tyranny of political and economic slavery.
(2081.5) 195:8.5 Materialism denies God, secularism simply ignores him; at least that was the earlier attitude. More recently, secularism has assumed a more militant attitude, assuming to take the place of the religion whose totalitarian bondage it onetime resisted. Twentieth-century secularism tends to affirm that man does not need God. But beware! this godless philosophy of human society will lead only to unrest, animosity, unhappiness, war, and world-wide disaster.
(2081.6) 195:8.6 Secularism can never bring peace to mankind. Nothing can take the place of God in human society. But mark you well! do not be quick to surrender the beneficent gains of the secular revolt from ecclesiastical totalitarianism. Western civilization today enjoys many liberties and satisfactions as a result of the secular revolt. The great mistake of secularism was this: In revolting against the almost total control of life by religious authority, and after attaining the liberation from such ecclesiastical tyranny, the secularists went on to institute a revolt against God himself, sometimes tacitly and sometimes openly.
(2081.7) 195:8.7 To the secularistic revolt you owe the amazing creativity of American industrialism and the unprecedented material progress of Western civilization. And because the secularistic revolt went too far and lost sight of God and true religion, there also followed the unlooked-for harvest of world wars and international unsettledness.
Jesus’ Unremitting Service: Because of this high estimate which Jesus placed upon men, he was willing to spend himself in the unremitting service of humankind. –The Urantia Book (196:2:10)
(2081.8) 195:8.8 It is not necessary to sacrifice faith in God in order to enjoy the blessings of the modern secularistic revolt: tolerance, social service, democratic government, and civil liberties. It was not necessary for the secularists to antagonize true religion in order to promote science and to advance education.
(2082.1) 195:8.9 But secularism is not the sole parent of all these recent gains in the enlargement of living. Behind the gains of the twentieth century are not only science and secularism but also the unrecognized and unacknowledged spiritual workings of the life and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth.
(2082.2) 195:8.10 Without God, without religion, scientific secularism can never co-ordinate its forces, harmonize its divergent and rivalrous interests, races, and nationalisms. This secularistic human society, notwithstanding its unparalleled materialistic achievement, is slowly disintegrating. The chief cohesive force resisting this disintegration of antagonism is nationalism. And nationalism is the chief barrier to world peace.
(2082.3) 195:8.11 The inherent weakness of secularism is that it discards ethics and religion for politics and power. You simply cannot establish the brotherhood of men while ignoring or denying the fatherhood of God.
(2082.4) 195:8.12 Secular social and political optimism is an illusion. Without God, neither freedom and liberty, nor property and wealth will lead to peace.
(2082.5) 195:8.13 The complete secularization of science, education, industry, and society can lead only to disaster. During the first third of the twentieth century Urantians killed more human beings than were killed during the whole of the Christian dispensation up to that time. And this is only the beginning of the dire harvest of materialism and secularism; still more terrible destruction is yet to come.
The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshiped anything but himself. –Francis Burton
This godless secularism, however, has not limited its infection to western culture in North America and Europe. It has spread out over the whole of human civilization, like a hydra—which keeps generating new heads of mind-searing godlessness; every time one group or another manages to cut one off it instantly grows a new, even more dangerous one.
Have you ever truly examined the philosophy you are currently embracing? Are you capable of objectively examining your present belief system, apart from your emotional and intellectual adherence to it?
But doesn’t all of this really come down to the question of whether you, the individual, are willing to let go of every belief to which you currently clinging—your metaphorical security blankets—your metaphorical, as well as, real mind toys, mind dolls and mind candy you think you can’t live without?
Is your current belief system advancing your forward to the inner realization that this Source, God, Power, Universal Force (and the almost countless other names assigned to Him) is your Paradise Father—the same Paradise Father that Jesus of Nazareth referred to, when he said…”When you see me…you see the Father?”
There dwells within you a fragment of the Universal Father. –The Urantia Book
If your current belief system is not advancing you toward this inner realization that you are directly connected to the Paradise Father, through his indwelling divine spirit-fragment, the Thought Adjuster, then you are wandering around in ideological mysticism—whether the classification given to that ideological mysticism is so-called religious, so-called spiritual, so-called philosophical or so-called scientific.
This path of ego-centrism—self-indulgence and instant self-gratification through the acquisition of things and the pleasure satisfaction of being the focal point of attention, getting your way and always being right, even when you are wrong…is…after all…the path of least resistance in the individual human experience…the lazy way out…where you never have to question anything… The bottom-line seduction of the secularistic and (hidden) godless philosophy is that you are so easily deceived into believing that whatever you desire to manifest as your reality…you are entitled to… Aren’t you?
No matter how your beliefs affect others around you, affect your family, community, nation and even the whole of human civilization…your rights come first. Don’t they?
And your god, force, power, universe, unidentified consciousness—whatever name you assign to this ethereal thing, over which you may exercise control to serve your intentions and desires—to serve you—you don’t ever have to answer to… Do you?
After all…if you screw up in this life…you get countless more lifetimes in human form to get it right. Don’t you? Or do you? How certain are you of what you currently believe?
The whole of human belief systems is the idiotic and moronic—mentally unbalanced and insane attempt to control God—the Paradise Father of the Universe of universes. And all such belief systems of controlling Him, in any way, shape and form is, in the final analysis, the path of least resistance—the laziness of the human animal mind—mediocrity—perpetuating itself in standardization—secularism—whose not-so-secret underpinnings is godlessness—based in ego-centrism, ego-self-inflation, ego-indulgence and self-gratification…
“Listen to the inner light; it will guide you. Listen to the inner peace; it will feed you. Listen to the inner love; it will transform you.” –Sri Chinmoy
And so I ask you, again…
- How certain are you of what you currently believe?
- Are your current beliefs your own?
- Or were they handed over to you, on an arsenic-coated silver platter, which you readily accepted, without question?
- Whether you grew up with your beliefs, which you have never questioned…or whether they were dangled on a string in front of you, at some point in your life…did you just…swallow them…hook, line and sinker, without so much as exerting the effort to create a question mark in your mind?
- Is this belief system I am embracing…really a true picture of universe reality and my relationship to the First Source and Center of all reality?
- Or is this belief system a…metaphysical black hole…?
Question more, my friend…not less… Think more deeply…not less deeply… Ask your indwelling divine spirit to lead you to the fullest possible manifestation of revealed truth… And you will be led away from all superstitious and metaphysical…black holes… You will…without doubt…come to the inner realization that the Paradise Father, while not like you and me, is indeed a person, who is the First Person, the Original Personality from which all subsequent personalities are derived, and you are directly connected to Him by his indwelling spirit-presence.
Many promise to lead you to “enlightenment.” The truth is…no one can lead you to your inner light. All another can do is point the way. Only you may lead yourself to the brilliantly shining light of God within you. All you need do is pull up the blinds and let the light in… –Tim R Walls
