The Seven Adjutant Mind Spirits
What is the Spirit of Intuition?
And What is Spiritual Intuition?
“Wakan Tanka, Great Mystery, teach me to trust my heart, my mind, my intuition, my inner knowing, the senses of my body, the blessings of my spirit. Teach me to trust these things so that I may enter my sacred space and love beyond my fear, and thus walk in balance with the passing of each glorious sun.
A Quick Review of the Characteristic Manifestations of Intuition
In the previous articles, we learned that the first four of the twenty-eight principles of high mortal philosophy, “points of light,” are:
(556.3) 48:7.3 1. A display of specialized skill does not signify possession of spiritual capacity. Cleverness is not a substitute for true character.
(556.4) 48:7.4 2. Few persons live up to the faith which they really have. Unreasoned fear is a master intellectual fraud practiced upon the evolving mortal soul.
(556.5) 48:7.5 3. Inherent capacities cannot be exceeded; a pint can never hold a quart. The spirit concept cannot be mechanically forced into the material memory mold.
(556.6) 48:7.6 4. Few mortals ever dare to draw anything like the sum of personality credits established by the combined ministries of nature and grace. The majority of impoverished souls are truly rich, but they refuse to believe it.
We also learned that the adjutant mind spirit of intuition is described and characterized as:
(378.4) 34:4.10 …the spirit of intuition — of quick perception.
(378.6) 34:4.12 …the first functioning mind-spirit, the adjutant of intuition, the spirit of “quick understanding.”…
(402.3) 36:5.6 1. The spirit of intuition — quick perception, the primitive physical and inherent reflex instincts, the directional and other self-preservative endowments of all mind creations; the only one of the adjutants to function so largely in the lower orders of animal life and the only one to make extensive functional contact with the nonteachable levels of mechanical mind
(192.8) 16:7.1 Intelligence alone cannot explain the moral nature. Morality, virtue, is indigenous to human personality. Moral intuition, the realization of duty, is a component of human mind endowment and is associated with the other inalienables of human nature: scientific curiosity and spiritual insight. Man’s mentality far transcends that of his animal cousins, but it is his moral and religious natures that especially distinguish him from the animal world.
(1108.1) 101:3.2 Faith-insight, or spiritual intuition, is the endowment of the cosmic mind in association with the Thought Adjuster, which is the Father’s gift to man. Spiritual reason, soul intelligence, is the endowment of the Holy Spirit, the Creative Spirit’s gift to man. Spiritual philosophy, the wisdom of spirit realities, is the endowment of the Spirit of Truth, the combined gift of the bestowal Sons to the children of men. And the co-ordination and interassociation of these spirit endowments constitute man a spirit personality in potential destiny.
“Faith…is the spirit-insight realization–the knowing that the soul has become…indestructible…and no harm can come to the real you, no matter how the dissolution of the mortal body may occur…” –Tim R Walls
Now, let us summarize the characteristics of the adjutant spirit of intuition, as they are received by the natural and evolutionary brain-mind matrix and become manifest in mortal experience:
primitive physical and inherent reflex instincts
realization of duty
From the above, we also learn that…
faith-insight is also spiritual intuition, the source of which is the influence of the cosmic mind and the Thought Adjuster, in association with each other. This is important to distinguish from the adjutant spirit of intuition. Spiritual intuition, or faith-insight is the outgrowth of mortal experiential acquisition of meaning and value in relation to truth, beauty and goodness, whose underlying impulse toward such evolutionary, experiential growth is…the adjutant spirit of intuition.
spiritual reason equals soul intelligence, the source of which is the Holy Spirit.
spiritual philosophy equals the wisdom of spirit realities, whose source is the Spirit of Truth of the Creator Son, Michael, who incarnated on Earth (Urantia) as Jesus of Nazareth.
the co-ordination and interassociation of these spirit endowments constitute man a spirit personality in potential destiny.
Adjutant Impulse 7 | Differential Urge to Intuitive Response
- Is the spirit of intuition a pulsating spirit-influence, emanating from the Local Universe Mother spirit, a spiritual tone, to which we may choose to respond?
- And when we choose to respond, does this spiritual tone initiate a differential urge–a feeling that there is something more to life–something we are missing–something for which we hunger and thirst–something that can only be satisfied by embracing the spirit-value of spiritual intuition?
- When do words on a page, a concept in the mind, become more than just words on a page and a concept in the mind, taking root and growing into the fruits of the spirit—living experiential spiritual values, which reveal an expansion of the whole self–the true personality of an individual–his or her true character?
- And is this process of expansion of the entire self as much of an initially unconscious, then half-conscious, and later on, a fully soul-conscious chipping away at one’s character defects–metaphorically like an artist chipping away every piece of stone that does not belong on the finished statue–self-control and self-mastery equaling self-correction?
- How could you ever know the truth (the experiential spirit-value) in each of these four principles, unless and until you “feelingly experience them–resonate with the truth–resonate with the spirit-value in each–watering the principle, the concept of mortal philosophy with the water of life, allowing it to grow into the real you?
Cosmic Levels Response:
Body, Mind, Spirit, Soul
In the illustration, above, the pattern for mortal mind is the human animal level “conscious” mind, evolving (mindally and spiritually growing) into the mid-mind (soul-consciousness), sometime to become one with (fuse with) the indwelling Paradise god-fragment—The Thought Adjuster.
In the next illustration, above, as well as in the first four statements, think of intuition as stimulating the body, mind, spirit and soul growth, relative to the individual responding (feeling, thinking) to this differential urge (spirit impulse contact with the mortal brain-mind matrix) toward attainment of
- spiritual capacity for true character,
- faith-insight into the reality of the mortal soul,
- the urge to expand inherent capacities, and
- laying claim to one’s spiritual inheritance-spiritual riches–all of the combined spirit ministries involved in the fertilization, stimulation and growing of the evolving mortal soul of immortal potential.
The First Four Principles
(556.3) 48:7.3 1. A display of specialized skill(body-mind) does not signify possession of spiritual capacity(spirit). Cleverness(mind) is not a substitute for true character(soul).
(556.4) 48:7.4 2. Few persons(body-mind) live up to the faith(mind-spirit) which they really have. Unreasoned fear(body-mind) is a master intellectual fraud(mind) practiced(body-mind) upon the evolving mortal soul(soul).
(556.5) 48:7.5 3. Inherent capacities(body-mind) cannot be exceeded; a pint(mind) can never hold a quart(mind-spirit-soul). The spirit concept(mind-spirit) cannot be mechanically forced(body-mind) into the material memory mold(body-mind).
(556.6) 48:7.6 4. Few mortals(body-mind) ever dare(mind-spirit-soul) to draw(mind-spirit-soul) anything like the sum of personality credits(mind-spirit-soul) established by the combined ministries(body-mind-spirit-soul) of nature(body) and grace(spirit). The majority of impoverished(mind) souls(soul) are truly rich(body-mind-spirit-soul), but they refuse to believe it(mind).
The adjectives and nouns collectively used in the first four statements, both refer to and name character deficiencies. More specifically, perhaps, questions to ask are these:
- Is it possible to hide behind specialized skills, cleverness, fear, practicing intellectual fraud on oneself (self-deceit) and upon others (deceiving others), limited inherent capacities, resistance in the material memory mold (the brain), inherited animal legacy, refusing to believe, believing one is impoverished, and not be manifesting character deficiencies?
- Possible other character deficiencies that may manifest: jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
- When one is hiding behind character deficiencies, is this not also hiding one’s true character?
- Another way of asking this question is this. How can any individual reveal true character, when it is well-nigh completely enshrouded by character deficiencies?
- For example, if you are self-deceiving and deceive others, is this not a well-nigh total enshrouding of one’s true character in the darkness of human self-centered and selfish thinking?
The spirit of intuition is not the experiential spirit-value of spiritual intuition; spiritual intuition must be experienced.
In the illustration, above, we see a summary outline of the character attributes which are stimulated by the adjutant mind spirit of intuition, as well as multiple others of the adjutant mind spirits are stimulating-activating the human animal brain toward spiritual growth-acquisition of the character attributes of:
spiritual capacity evolving into true character,
faith evolving into the mortal soul (mid-mind) superconsciousness,
becoming a quart rather than a pint (enlarging both mental and spiritual capacity),
the spiritual courage to draw upon the sum total of the spiritual riches available to the individual personality, simply by laying claim to them as the mortal child of God’s spiritual inheritance,
opening up the self to see and live increasingly more unselfishly by being responsive to the combined ministries of the attending guardian seraphim, the adjutant mind spirits’ influences,
the totality functioning of the Holy Spirit of the Local Universe Mother spirit,
the Spirit of Truth of the Creator Son, Michael-Jesus of Nazareth and
the indwelling god-fragment-the divine spirit of the Paradise Father.
The slow, but sure, expansion of the mind and soul through making choices in life—moral choosing—implies…experiential growth… But what more exactly is “experiential growth?”
(1268.3) 116:0.3 Experiential growth implies creature-Creator partnership — God and man in association.
So then…beginning at the lowest level of moral choosing in life—
- choosing better behavior,
- more unselfish behavior over selfish actions toward our early childhood playmates,
- choosing to share a toy with another child, choosing to learn through our mistakes,
as but a few examples, eventually leading, on average of five to eight years of age,
- making the first moral choice involving faith in a higher power,
all of this and so much more is involved in…experiential growth…
- increasing sincerity with the self and others,
- increasingly more sincerity and more decisions, in life, which must be made…
implies the willingness of the human animal personality to enter into the creature-Creator partnership—God and man in association, and potentially into eternity, both fused together in the soul (the beginning morontial soul body-mind).
The Seventh Psychic Circle
If you study the graphic, above, you will see that a description, regarding the seventh psychic circle and the first psychic circle is revealed to us, but the revelators were not permitted to reveal details of the 5th through the 2nd circles. In spite of this (and I fully understand the reasons for not revealing details of the other circles), I know, from my own experiential growth, much may be ascertained from other sections of The Urantia Book, regarding the seven psychic circles, as well as from life-experiences themselves.
Everything we are discussing (and much more), may be said to be involved in the arena of experiencing and decision-making within the seventh psychic circle of experiential soul growth, our beginning point in growing the evolving mortal soul of immortal potentiality.
In order to understand where this experiential growth is leading to…it is essential to have an, at least, rough outline and roadmap—overview of the seven psychic circles. So I am here going to introduce the section, from the Urantia Book, on the seven psychic circles.
In listening and reading the text that follows, you will hear the words “Adjuster fusion.” Most individuals are familiar with the story of Enoch, who “walked with God and was not…”
In the simplest terms…Adjuster fusion means that the mortal individual has transferred the mortal mind-personality-experience identity into the soul and this mind-personality-experience-soul mind and god-fragment—Thought Adjuster become one new being in the Universe…the newly emerging ascending son of the Paradise Father.
This fusion process sometimes takes place before death, but the most common way it occurs, is after death…sometime during the long re-training process on the seven mansion words.
(1209.1) 110:6.1 The sum total of personality realization on a material world is contained within the successive conquest of the seven psychic circles of mortal potentiality. Entrance upon the seventh circle marks the beginning of true human personality function. Completion of the first circle denotes the relative maturity of the mortal being. Though the traversal of the seven circles of cosmic growth does not equal fusion with the Adjuster, the mastery of these circles marks the attainment of those steps which are preliminary to Adjuster fusion.
(1209.2) 110:6.2 The Adjuster is your equal partner in the attainment of the seven circles — the achievement of comparative mortal maturity. The Adjuster ascends the circles with you from the seventh to the first but progresses to the status of supremacy and self-activity quite independent of the active co-operation of the mortal mind.
(1209.3) 110:6.3 The psychic circles are not exclusively intellectual, neither are they wholly morontial; they have to do with personality status, mind attainment, soul growth, and Adjuster attunement. The successful traversal of these levels demands the harmonious functioning of the entire personality, not merely of some one phase thereof. The growth of the parts does not equal the true maturation of the whole; the parts really grow in proportion to the expansion of the entire self — the whole self — material, intellectual, and spiritual.
(1209.4) 110:6.4 When the development of the intellectual nature proceeds faster than that of the spiritual, such a situation renders communication with the Thought Adjuster both difficult and dangerous. Likewise, overspiritual development tends to produce a fanatical and perverted interpretation of the spirit leadings of the divine indweller. Lack of spiritual capacity makes it very difficult to transmit to such a material intellect the spiritual truths resident in the higher superconsciousness. It is to the mind of perfect poise, housed in a body of clean habits, stabilized neural energies, and balanced chemical function — when the physical, mental, and spiritual powers are in triune harmony of development — that a maximum of light and truth can be imparted with a minimum of temporal danger or risk to the real welfare of such a being. By such a balanced growth does man ascend the circles of planetary progression one by one, from the seventh to the first.
(1209.5) 110:6.5 The Adjusters are always near you and of you, but rarely can they speak directly, as another being, to you. Circle by circle your intellectual decisions, moral choosings, and spiritual development add to the ability of the Adjuster to function in your mind; circle by circle you thereby ascend from the lower stages of Adjuster association and mind attunement, so that the Adjuster is increasingly enabled to register his picturizations of destiny with augmenting vividness and conviction upon the evolving consciousness of this God-seeking mind-soul.
(1210.1) 110:6.6 Every decision you make either impedes or facilitates the function of the Adjuster; likewise do these very decisions determine your advancement in the circles of human achievement. It is true that the supremacy of a decision, its crisis relationship, has a great deal to do with its circle-making influence; nevertheless, numbers of decisions, frequent repetitions, persistent repetitions, are also essential to the habit-forming certainty of such reactions.
(1210.2) 110:6.7 It is difficult precisely to define the seven levels of human progression, for the reason that these levels are personal; they are variable for each individual and are apparently determined by the growth capacity of each human being. The conquest of these levels of cosmic evolution is reflected in three ways:
(1210.3) 110:6.8 1. Adjuster attunement. The spiritizing mind nears the Adjuster presence proportional to circle attainment.
(1210.4) 110:6.9 2. Soul evolution. The emergence of the morontia soul indicates the extent and depth of circle mastery.
(1210.5) 110:6.10 3. Personality reality. The degree of selfhood reality is directly determined by circle conquest. Persons become more real as they ascend from the seventh to the first level of mortal existence.
(1210.6) 110:6.11 As the circles are traversed, the child of material evolution is growing into the mature human of immortal potentiality. The shadowy reality of the embryonic nature of a seventh circler is giving way to the clearer manifestation of the emerging morontia nature of a local universe citizen.
(1210.7) 110:6.12 While it is impossible precisely to define the seven levels, or psychic circles, of human growth, it is permissible to suggest the minimum and maximum limits of these stages of maturity realization:
(1210.8) 110:6.13 The seventh circle. This level is entered when human beings develop the powers of personal choice, individual decision, moral responsibility, and the capacity for the attainment of spiritual individuality. This signifies the united function of the seven adjutant mind-spirits under the direction of the spirit of wisdom, the encircuitment of the mortal creature in the influence of the Holy Spirit, and, on Urantia, the first functioning of the Spirit of Truth, together with the reception of a Thought Adjuster in the mortal mind. Entrance upon the seventh circle constitutes a mortal creature a truly potential citizen of the local universe.
(1210.9) 110:6.14 The third circle. The Adjuster’s work is much more effective after the human ascender attains the third circle and receives a personal seraphic guardian of destiny. While there is no apparent concert of effort between the Adjuster and the seraphic guardian, nonetheless there is to be observed an unmistakable improvement in all phases of cosmic achievement and spiritual development subsequent to the assignment of the personal seraphic attendant. When the third circle is attained, the Adjuster endeavors to morontiaize the mind of man during the remainder of the mortal life span, to make the remaining circles, and achieve the final stage of the divine-human association before natural death dissolves the unique partnership.
(1210.10) 110:6.15 The first circle. The Adjuster cannot, ordinarily, speak directly and immediately with you until you attain the first and final circle of progressive mortal achievement. This level represents the highest possible realization of mind-Adjuster relationship in the human experience prior to the liberation of the evolving morontia soul from the habiliments of the material body. Concerning mind, emotions, and cosmic insight, this achievement of the first psychic circle is the nearest possible approach of material mind and spirit Adjuster in human experience.
(1211.1) 110:6.16 Perhaps these psychic circles of mortal progression would be better denominated cosmic levels — actual meaning grasps and value realizations of progressive approach to the morontia consciousness of initial relationship of the evolutionary soul with the emerging Supreme Being. And it is this very relationship that makes it forever impossible fully to explain the significance of the cosmic circles to the material mind. These circle attainments are only relatively related to God-consciousness. A seventh or sixth circler can be almost as truly God-knowing — sonship conscious — as a second or first circler, but such lower circle beings are far less conscious of experiential relation to the Supreme Being, universe citizenship. The attainment of these cosmic circles will become a part of the ascenders’ experience on the mansion worlds if they fail of such achievement before natural death.
(1211.2) 110:6.17 The motivation of faith makes experiential the full realization of man’s sonship with God, but action, completion of decisions, is essential to the evolutionary attainment of consciousness of progressive kinship with the cosmic actuality of the Supreme Being. Faith transmutes potentials to actuals in the spiritual world, but potentials become actuals in the finite realms of the Supreme only by and through the realization of choice-experience. But choosing to do the will of God joins spiritual faith to material decisions in personality action and thus supplies a divine and spiritual fulcrum for the more effective functioning of the human and material leverage of God-hunger. Such a wise co-ordination of material and spiritual forces greatly augments both cosmic realization of the Supreme and morontia comprehension of the Paradise Deities.
(1211.3) 110:6.18 The mastery of the cosmic circles is related to the quantitative growth of the morontia soul, the comprehension of supreme meanings. But the qualitative status of this immortal soul is wholly dependent on the grasp of living faith upon the Paradise-potential fact-value that mortal man is a son of the eternal God. Therefore does a seventh circler go on to the mansion worlds to attain further quantitative realization of cosmic growth just as does a second or even a first circler.
(1211.4) 110:6.19 There is only an indirect relation between cosmic-circle attainment and actual spiritual religious experience; such attainments are reciprocal and therefore mutually beneficial. Purely spiritual development may have little to do with planetary material prosperity, but circle attainment always augments the potential of human success and mortal achievement.
(1211.5) 110:6.20 From the seventh to the third circle there occurs increased and unified action of the seven adjutant mind-spirits in the task of weaning the mortal mind from its dependence on the realities of the material life mechanisms preparatory to increased introduction to morontia levels of experience. From the third circle onward the adjutant influence progressively diminishes.
(1211.6) 110:6.21 The seven circles embrace mortal experience extending from the highest purely animal level to the lowest actual contactual morontia level of self-consciousness as a personality experience. The mastery of the first cosmic circle signalizes the attainment of premorontia mortal maturity and marks the termination of the conjoint ministry of the adjutant mind-spirits as an exclusive influence of mind action in the human personality. Beyond the first circle, mind becomes increasingly akin to the intelligence of the morontia stage of evolution, the conjoined ministry of the cosmic mind and the superadjutant endowment of the Creative Spirit of a local universe.
(1212.1) 110:6.22 The great days in the individual careers of Adjusters are: first, when the human subject breaks through into the third psychic circle, thus insuring the Monitor’s self-activity and increased range of function (provided the indweller was not already self-acting); then, when the human partner attains the first psychic circle, and they are thereby enabled to intercommunicate, at least to some degree; and last, when they are finally and eternally fused.
In this study, we pursued a deeper understanding of how the seventh adjutant mind spirit of intuition is received by the responsive human animal brain-mind matrix as an impulse toward…morality…the making of the first moral choice in life, and rapidly multiplying moral choices, throughout one’s life-experiences.
The first moral choice, and beyond, denotes the elevation of belief in simple faith in a higher power, wherein the individual begins to respond to the still, small voice within…the whisperings of the indwelling God-fragment—the Thought Adjuster.
This first moral choosing, not only signifies the reception and indwelling of the Thought Adjuster, but also formal entrance into the seventh psychic circle of experiential soul growth—the moment of the true birth of the evolving mortal soul.
Entrance into the seventh psychic circle evidences the individual’s exercising the priceless powers of personal choosing, individual decision-making, moral responsibility, and the capacity for the attainment of spiritual individuality.
All seven of the adjutant mind spirits of intuition, understand, courage, knowledge, counsel, worship and wisdom are now unitedly functioning (the human brain-natural mind matrix is receptive to all seven of these spirit mind pulses), and these pulses are under the control of the adjutant of wisdom.
The human being is now formally encircuited into the direct influence of the Holy Spirit of the Local Universe Mother Spirit. The individual mortal is also now receptive to the Spirit of Truth of the Creator Son. The Thought Adjuster, dispatched from the Paradise Father, also instantaneously arrives and is present in the mortal mind, as the “pilot light,” the guiding, absolute focalizing light of absolute and infinite divinity, always pointing the way…Godward…
The seventh adjutant mind spirit’s influence, together with the influences of all of the adjutant mind spirits is stimulating the mortal mind to slowly but surely become aware of one’s character deficiencies, as well as one’s character attributes, and the need to begin the slow but sure process of attaining to true character—godlikeness…
